COIMBATORE: DMK’s Karur district secretary and former MLA Vasuki Murugesan (45) died when her car collided head on with a tanker at Sulur here on Friday.

Three others, who were travelling with her, sustained injuries and admitted to different hospitals.

According to police, Vasuki was on her way to Coimbatore airport to go to Chennai to greet Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, who returned from his abroad trip.

Around 12.45 pm, when the car in which she was travelling tried to overtake a vehicle, it collided with an oncoming LPG tanker near a petrol bunk at Sulur, police said.

Vasuki died on the spot, while three others - Sabesan, Senthil and Sukumar - were injured and admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and another private hospital. Tanker driver Saravanan was arrested by the Sulur police.
