CHENNAI: Well-known art director and designer of the AIADMK flag four decades ago, P Angamuthu, died here during the early hours of Tuesday. He was 81 and is survived by five daughters and two sons. Angamuthu served as the art director for many of the MGR-starrers, including Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban, and also for films Avan Pithana and Thangathambi, for which Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had written scripts.

Angamuthu also served as chairman of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board and as presidium chairman of the AIADMK’s Chennai unit. He had produced more than 10 Tamil films and was one of the founder members of the FEFSI.

He had also served as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council.  AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa paid floral tributes to the late party functionary and consoled the members of Angamuthu’s family.
