THANJAVUR: Thousands of devotees from all over Tamil Nadu have started arriving at Swami Malai in the district to witness the Kandha Sashti festival, beginning on November 11.

Legend has it that it was on this day that Lord Muruga killed the demon Soorasamharam and is hence considered an auspicious day.

Temple manger Vasudevan said that 108 conches would be blown in the temple on Nov 11 morning, while the evening would be a celebration of Lord Muruga taking a spear to kill the demon.

On November 12, the celestial wedding of Lord Muruga with Devasena would take place, he said.
