MADURAI/CHENNAI: In connection with the allegations that voters were bribed in the  Assembly constituencies of Madurai, District Election Officer and Collector U Sagayam has submitted his report to the State’s Chief Electoral  Officer (CEO).

According to sources, the district administration’s report is being reviewed by Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar.

It is said that the Chief Electoral Officer will seek clarifications on the report if need be before forwarding it to Delhi.

The Election Commission of India will take a decision based on the report and action, if any, will be decided by the ECI within few days, the sources added.

Reports in this regard stated that the entire electorate residing in Madurai West constituency were bribed as urban district secretaries Sellur K Raju (AIADMK) and G Thalapathi (DMK), are contesting.

According to the reports, the dossier seized on that day had all particulars as to who were used by the ruling DMK to reach the electorate to deliver the cash intended in exchange for their votes.

It even accounted for the money which was seized elsewhere in the constituency by the police and other monitoring committees which  were pressed into service by the District Administration since the declaration of the election dates.

Further, according to the dossier, Rs 60 lakh, out of Rs 81 lakh  intended for the 4 Corporation wards, were distributed effectively and the accounts for the same had been settled with the party high command.

In the wake of incriminating documents seized on the D-day, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had sought a detailed report.

The District Administration had prepared a comprehensive report on the issue and has sent the same to the State’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) who would be forwarding it to the Election Commission of India.

According to sources, the report is being reviewed by Tamil Nadu CEO Praveen Kumar.

It is said that the Chief Electoral Officer will seek clarifications on the report if need be before forwarding it to Delhi.

The Election Commission of India will take a decision based on the report and action, if any, will be decided by the Election Commission of India within few days, the sources added.
