PERAMBALUR / DINDIGUL: Three persons died and 23 others suffered grievous injuries in an accident involving multiple vehicles in the wee hours of Friday.

Sources said a car proceeding to Tiruchy from Chennai was parked near the TiruchyChennai National Highway near Kalpadi Branch Road. When another Tiruchybound van halted behind the stationary car, it was hit by a private bus bound for Tiruchy from Chennai. Meanwhile, another private bus collided on to the bus that had already hit the van.

Varalakshmi (40), wife of Gopal, onboard the Tiruchybound bus, and Saravanan (30) of Ooranipuram near Vettuvarkottai in Thanjavur district died on the spot. Deivasikamani of Chromepet in Chennai and travelling in the van died on way to the Perambalur Government Hospital. Van passengers Ashok Kumar (32) and his wife Usha (29) were admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchy. The rest of the injured were admitted to the Perambalur GH.

The Perambalur Police registered a case and arrested Hasan Muhammad (29) of Gandhinagar in Aranthangi.

Meanwhile in Dindigul, four persons died on the spot when a car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Ayyalur on the DindigulTiruchy National Highway on Friday. Four others were injured.

Jaffer Ali (55), a Siddha practitioner from Solai Alagupuram in Madurai, wife Rahmath Nisha (45) and children Yasmin (12), Assalamkhan (10), Amirkhan (8) and their relatives Soudhamma (42) and Reidun Beevi (65) were going to Tiruchy by car to attend the funeral of a relative. Kajamaideen (45) of Pudur was driving the car.

When the car was passing Theethakilavnur near Ayyalur, it collided head on with a sandladen lorry going towards Dindigul.

Jaffer Ali, Rahmath Nisha, Reidun Beevi and driver Kajamaideen were killed on the spot. The three children and Soudhamma have been admitted to the government hospital in Dindigul with serious injuries.
