CHENNAI: The Agila India Nadalum Makkal Katchi, founded by actor Karthik, has severed ties with the AIADMK and will contest the Assembly election independently this time from at least 25 constituencies.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Wednesday, Karthik presented a list of 40 constituencies, largely in Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar districts, of which at least  in 25 seats party members will contest.

Explaining his pull-out from the AIADMK front, he said he had taken the decision to preserve his self-respect.

“Though we had confirmed our alliance with AIADMK in mid-January, we were not invited for seat-sharing by the party. We are a party with self-respect. We can respect others, but not salute them,” he clarified. “Even the MDMK is experiencing the same indifference from the AIADMK that we did,” he quipped.

Speaking about the constituencies he would contest from, he said he was going to choose from Sivakasi, Ambasamudram, Sankaran Koil and Kovilpatti. A 20-point manifesto for the party would be released soon, he added.
