PUDUCHERRY: Former Congress MLA V Sabapathy joined the All India NR Congress on Sunday. He is aspiring to contest from the Mudaliarpet seat. Sabapathy contested the previous elections as an independent after the seat in the Congress-DMK alliance went to DMK. However, he lost to DMK’s Dr M A S Subramanian, who won the seat in a three-corned contest. He also lost in 2001 as the Congress candidate in the same constituency to Subramanian and in 1996 to Manjini of CPI. However, he was elected four times -- in 1977, 1980, 1985 and 1991.
