CHENNAI: Former State Law Minister and AIADMK north Chennai district secretary D Jayakumar ((51) and Ex-food minister and Namakkal district MGR Mandram president P Dhanapal (62) are set to be elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 14th Assembly respectively.

AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa nominated both Jayakumar and Dhanapal to the respective posts on Monday.

Since the AIADMK has emerged the largest party in the Assembly, both of them are expected to be elected unanimously on May 27.

Jayakumar, an advocate, was elected from the Royapuram constituency for the fourth consecutive time this year.  He served as Minister for Electricity and as  Law Minister in the past and also served in his party in various capacities.

A five-time MLA, Dhanapal represents the Rasipuram Assembly segment. He was elected to the Assembly in 1977, 1980, 1984, 2001 and 2011.
