A case of financial irregularity was slapped against a dalit panchayat president, who alleged discrimination by caste Hindus in Virudhunagar district.
V Karuppan, panchayat president of Kottakaachiyendal village, earlier complained against vice-president Uma Maheswari and other members that they made him sit on the floor during panchayat meetings.
Collector M Balaji visited the village and conducted enquiries.
Meanwhile, a group of villagers alleged financial irregularity in desilting work in Poolanganni drinking water pond under the MGNREGS. They also filed a complaint with Shanthi, Block Development Officer. When the documents in the village panchayat office was verified, misappropriation to the tune of Rs 1.16 lakh came to light, official sources said.
