Following complaints of inconvenience from locals residents, two-way traffic has been restored on the Katpadi road from Thursday.
One-way traffic was introduced on the Makkan-National theatre stretch on April 2 by the administration, in a bid to reduce traffic congestion on main arteries. Changes in traffic was made along the Katpadi road, Arcot road, Thorapadi road and Bagayam road. The two-way traffic was made into one-way.
Since two-wheelers and four wheelers used the stretch as a two-way, it was difficult for pedestrians to reach CMC Hospital. Accidents were also reported. The residents of Thottapalayam sent a petition to the District Collector and SP to restore the two-way traffic system, which was officially restored on Thursday. Katpadi-bound town buses, light motor vehicles and two wheelers were allowed to use the two-way system, autorickshaws, heavy vehicles and mofussil buses were routed through the old bypass road.
