PUDUCHERRY: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Puducherry secretary N V Saminathan condemned the state government on Sunday for their lackadaisical attitude toward the issue of disposal of piling garbage. He warned that unless solved, the garbage could cause diseases and  affect the health of the people in the Union Territory. Saminathan said the government was yet to take any effective steps to clear the garbage, which is stinking.

The BJP leader urged the electricity department to replace old metres with quality electronic metres.

He said the current metres were of such poor quality that it burdens consumers by charging them incorrectly for their electricity consumption.

He also asked the government to withdraw the electricity tariff hike.
