PUDUCHERRY:The fuel crisis, which has gripped the town for the last couple of days, has eased with the arrival of more stocks from various petroleum firms early on Wednesday.

Almost all the petrol pumps were open and there were no serpentine queues of customers waiting to fill up their vehicles.

Major suppliers like the IOC and HPCL had taken measures to ensure supply for its outlets in various parts of the town and the suburban areas.

The shortage attributed to the non-functioning of the Mangalore refinery has caused panic reaction from the public for the last two days.

Public pressure and the effective media reaction forced the oil firms to act. As a result  normalcy returned Normally the oil firms take anticipatory measures when a refinery unit is shut. But this time, despite the precautions, the stocks reached late and this is the reason for the shortage, said A Srikanth, an office-bearers of the petrol pump owners association on Wednesday.
