Stepping up pressure on governmentover its demand for closure of Koodankulam Nuclear Plant, antinuclear activists and political parties today decided to laysiege before Fort St.George, the seat of power, later thismonth.
Criticising ruling AIADMK for doing an about turn on theissue and "backstabbing" villagers of Idinthankarai, the coreagitation area by extending support to commissioning of KNPP,Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Legislative Party Leader Prof M HJawahirullah said about 10,000 protesters would lay a siege onOct 29 at Fort St. George demanding closure of the plant.
Speaking to reporters, he said protestors would alsourge government to lift prohibitory orders under Section 144in Koodankulam and revoke cases filed against anti-nuclearmovement leader S P Udhayakumar.
Besdies anti nuclear activists, workers of parties likeMDMK and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi would participate inthe agitation, he said.
He slammed Congress, DMK, AIADMK and BJP for supportingthe Indo-Russian joint venture saying it was their "hiddenagenda".
Stating that India has 300 days of sunshine which issuitable for generating power through solar energy, he saidnuclear energy was harmful to people and all such plants inIndia should be immediately 'shut'.
