Husband assaults wife on first night

Express News Service

A ‘first night’ ended on a nightmarish note for a 28-year-old bride, as she ended up in a hospital here on Wednesday morning, bleeding profusely from wounds inflicted upon her by the groom.

Police have arrested the groom, an auto driver. Soon after D Venkatesan (30) of Dheeran Nager and N Nirmala of Nagapattinam tied the knot on September 12, the couple were sent to the bridegroom’s house and the elders arranged for the ‘first night’ there. Nirmala, who was very nervous like any newly-wed, was shocked to see the audacity of Venkatesan but refused to give in to his wild demands.

A dejected Venkatesan got in touch with his sister Venkateswari, who consulted Nirmala’s parents and planned to organise another ‘first night” on September 17 at the groom’s house instead. This time too, Nirmala refused to give in to Venkatesan’s demands.

His sister soon came to his aid and tied Nirmala’s hands behind her and sent Venkatesan to the room. When Venkatesan went close to Nirmala, she allegedly kicked him away.

Venkatesan then turned violent and sexually assaulted her. The next morning, Venkateswari found Nirmala lying in a pool of blood.  She was later admitted to a Government Hospital, where she underwent a surgery. The doctors said that her urinary tract was damaged. Based on  a complaint, police arrested the duo.
