Congress MLA K Lakshminarayanan along with representatives of Kurusukuppam fishermen village panchyat picketed the office of the District Collector at Saram here on Monday. The protesters were demanding that the houses constructed for Tsunami affected fishermen of Kurusukuppam be handed over to them.

MLA Lakshminarayanan said that the administration had constructed houses for  68 fishermen of Kurusukuppam village affected by Tsunami.

The houses had been constructed and handed over to the revenue department nine months ago by the Project Implementation Agency.

However, since then the houses remained unallotted. Regular thefts of lights, wires, taps, windows and doors were happening as people continued to wait.

All formalities, including the  selection of beneficiaries through a committee which included the village panchayat members and social audit of the same, were concluded.

The agitators withdrew their protest after  Collector S B Deepak Kumar, who is also the Special Secretary of Revenue, assured them that their demands would be met shortly.
