PMK not for Ilavarasan as youth icon

M Niyas Ahmed

At a time when the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is being targetted by sections of civil society for the Dalit youth’s death, a senior PMK leader has questioned what he described as attempts to portray Ilavarasan as “youth icon.”

Denying that the PMK was responsible for the love marriage ending in a tragedy, former PMK Dharmapuri Member of Parliament Senthil said, “We also feel sad over Ilavarasan’s deat h. Our leader Anbumani Ramadoss too mourned his death. But only the VCK and other political parties which encouraged his immature love are responsible for his death.”

Harping on the presumption that Ilavarasan’s had committed suicide, Senthil alleged, “They are attempting to portray Ilavarasan as a symbol of youth. This is regrettable. In our view, he did not have the courage to accept the separation from a girl. Instead of condemning this, political parties are encouraging it.”
