Call off valuation boycott, urges TU vice-chancellor

Express News Service

Thiruvalluvar University has appealed to the Thiruvalluvar University Coordination Council, comprising Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association (TNGCTA) and Association of University Teachers (AUT), to drop their proposed plan to boycott the answer paper valuation work. The TUCC has been demanding a hike in remuneration for paper valuation and other examination-related work, based on the recommendations of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE).

The vice-chancellor of the university Dr P Gunasekaran, while appealing to the agitating teachers, said the university was very much concerned about the students as well as the teachers and was taking all steps to redress issues faced by them.

The teachers should drop their agitation and cooperate with the university which was in the process of obtaining the 12-B status and improve the quality of education.

Since the issue of hike in the remuneration had to be decided by the finance committee and the university syndicate, a decision in this regard would be taken only after obtaining approval from them. The TUCC has been invited for a meeting on June 10 to sort out the issue, Gunasekaran added.

The teachers had announced the boycott of central valuation for major UG and PG papers, which is likely to commence this weekend according to professor Kumar, chairman of the TUCC.

A total of 8 lakh scripts are to be valued in a short span to publish the results on time. This would delay the publication of results of the final year UG and PG students.
