Rowdy wanted in five murder cases caught

Express News Service

A 57-year-old history-sheeter, who was involved in five murder cases reported in the suburbs of the city, was arrested here on Tuesday morning.

Sources said Ravi alias ‘Market’ Ravi (57) from Puthuvaram, Wallajahpet, was nabbed after a team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (CCB-Gangsters) S Jayakumar intercepted a Toyota Innova car near Tambaram Bus Stand, based on a tip-off. They found Ravi, his accomplices - Ramesh, a realtor from Tambaram wanted in a kidnap case, and Rajesh, also from Tambaram, who was driving the vehicle - in the car and weapons like swords and knives in their possession.

Ravi, who once controlled the market in Tambaram, was the prime accused in the murder of ‘Kulla’ Ravi in 1993, and was involved in two other murders - of one Parthasarathy and ‘Soda’ Ravi - in Tambaram in the same year. In 1996, Ravi was booked for the murder of one Babu, a friend of an estranged aide ‘Padappai’ Guna. The last murder he had committed was that of one Lohachandar in 1999.

In later years, Ravi started working as a goon who would finalise land deals. As his business thrived, his enmity with ‘Padappai’ Guna deepened. However, Guna was arrested by police but there was no trace of Ravi.

On Tuesday, Tambaram Inspector R Albinraj registered a case against Ravi and his two accomplices, and the trio was later remanded to judicial custody.
