The Education Department on Wednesday suspended a government school teacher for his alleged involvement in a ganja case.
Police, on Tuesday, seized 234 kg of ganja from the house of Srinivasan (43), a physical education teacher of Chinnalapatti Government Higher Secondary. However, he escaped and is absconding. Police arrested Srinivasan’s brother Sukumaran.
On Wednesday, B Sukumaran Devadoss, chief educational officer, Dindigul district, said “We have suspended Srinivasan after the school authorities informed us about the ganja haul. We have pasted his suspension order on his house door and the matter has been brought to the attention of senior officials in Chennai.”
Srinivasan has been working as a teacher for the last three years and married Vanaja in 2006. It is also said that he maintained an illicit relationship with Sukumari, a ganja dealer. Sukumari has five cases against her at the Natham police station for selling ganja in Dindigul district.
Police said Srinivasan and his brother Sukumaran were arrested in a ganja case in 2009, and 25 kg of ganja was seized from them. After his release, he was appointed as a teacher at the Chinnalapatti Government HSS in 2010. “We do not know how he managed to get the job. The Teachers’ Recruitment board and School administration board have not conducted a proper background check before recruiting.
