The agitation by the employees of Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) demanding the payment of salary for the month of April continued for the third day on Sunday.
They started the strike on Friday demanding at least a date from the top officials of the company for the disbursal of salary. The officials, however, have not responded yet.
The salary for the employees had been delayed for the first time as there is no budgetary support for wages this fiscal. The management reportedly apprised the Heavy Industries Ministry about the financial position and the workers’ strike but they have not received any concrete reply so far.
With the employees continuing the sit-in strike for the third day, town DSP G S Anitha met HPF general manager Selvaraj and held discussions on the issue. She also met other senior officials of the company. She then told the workers that she would take up the issue with the Collector.
The employees alleged that the finance department failed to raise an alarm over the company’s dipping finances.
The striking employees, sources said, expected Collector Archana Patnaik to visit the company on Sunday and hold talks with the management and the workers.
On Monday, she would be passing through the HPF Road on her way to Gudalur to inaugurate the spices show. If she failed to turn up, the agitating employees said that they would block her way near the HPF company.
