A state-of-the art laboratory for embedded systems was inaugurated at the VIT university on Friday, under the aegis of the hardware giant Intel.
Sumeet Varma, head, (Higher Education and Entrepreneurship) Intel (South Asia and Pacific region) inaugurated the facility while VIT chancellor G Viswanathan presided over. The facility is housed in the Silver Jubilee Tower in the university campus.
According to PRO R Nandakumar, the laboratory contains a set of 20 computers with atom processors and the facility would help students of VIT to focus on research on prism control system design, developing cost-effective domestic appliances, remote controlled gadgets and the like. There is a proposal to publish at least 100 research papers in the first phase with the guidance of experts from Intel and VIT.
Vice president of Wipro P Srinivasa Rao, VIT vice-presidents Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan and G V Selvam; vice-chancellor professor Raju, dean of the School of Computing Science and Engineering, Margaret Anonsia were among others who were present on the occasion.
