A BJP worker, who hurled a petrol bomb at his own house and later filed a complaint to police that some miscreants had thrown the bomb, was arrested today, police said.

A lit petrol filled bottle was hurled at the house of BJP worker Ramanathan in the wee hours of September 26, when he was getting ready to go to Tiruchirapalli to attend Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's rally.

Investigations revealed that Ramanathan himself made and threw the bottle at his house, police said.

Ramanathan had confessed that he wanted to gain publicity and also wanted Modi to mention the incident in the rally, police said.

He was arrested on charges of filing false complaint and taking the police for granted. He was remanded to custody after being produced before a Judicial Magistrate, they said.
