Express News Service

A newborn baby girl rescued from a street at Sathuvachari on September 5, was admitted to a government-recognized home for adoption under the Specialised Adoption Scheme on Tuesday. The scheme is being implemented by an NGO, Society for Rural Development Promotion Services (SRDPS), at Tirupattur.

On the instructions of District Collector P Sankar, a team of officials led by District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Gomathy, rescued the baby and admitted her to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital for first aid and care.

On Tuesday, the Collector handed over the baby to the director of the SRDPS-run adoption agency Raja Panneerselvam, in the presence of the DSWO and district child protection officer Thirumavalavan.

“This is the 117th baby to be admitted to the adoption home under the specialised adoption scheme since 2008,” Raja Panneerselvam said.
