A 23-year-old caste Hindu man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl in Avaniyapuram.
Police said the dalit girl was going for work on Wednesday, when M Vijayan (23) intercepted her and tried to sexually assault her. When she resisted, he allegedly molested her. When the girl raised alarm, Vijayan threatened and abused her using the caste name, police said. The Avaniyapuram police registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act.
