Affirming that safety of women had improved under the AIADMK rule, actor Vindhya, who was campaigning for the party’s candidate here, said the DMK’s star campaigner Khushbu should verify facts before speaking in public.
This is the second time the two yesteryear heroines have returned to the district for electioneering. While Vindhya is campaigning for AIADMK candidate Dr M Thambidurai, Khushbu is soliciting votes for DMK candidate M Chinnasamy.
During her campaign speech, Khushbu had stated that crimes against women were increasing and faulted the law and order system in the State under the AIADMK government. Reacting to this, Vindhya said that Khushbu was making factual errors in her speeches. “Khushbu akka should verify facts and figures before speaking anything,” said Vindhya adding that in 2010, during the DMK regime, 165 dowry death cases, 638 sexual harassment cases and 1,405 molestation cases had been recorded. However, in 2012, under the AIADMK, these numbers came down to 118, 313 and 1,221 respectively.
