Express News Service

PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant Governor (in-charge) Ajay Kumar Singh on Monday called upon the police to ensure that the rule of law prevailed throughout the Union Territory.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a gymnasium exclusively for police personnel at Gorimedu, along with Chief Minister N Rangasamy.

The L-G said since the police force in the Union Territory was understaffed, they had a challenging task in hand. “There have been shortcomings, but the police have overcome these with the support of Chief Minister N Rangasamy,” he said. He urged the police force to be vigilant and perform its duty without any fear or favour. “The police must enforce the law strictly,” he added.

The L-G said various equipment would be provided at the gym at the earliest. Superintendents of Police Deivasigamony and T Bairousamy, and a host of other police personnel attended the event.

The L-G was given a guard of honour at the venue.  Finance secretary Chandraker Bharti, Inspector General of Police Praveer Ranjan and several other police officials were present at the venue.
