Xmas Greeting Comes With Barbs on Centre

CHENNAI: State leaders extended greetings on the eve of Christmas with messages of communal harmony, peace and love, highlighting the teachings of Christianity.

DMK leader M Karunanidhi in his message, said secularism was the fundamental principle of the Constitution. But certain outfits were trying to impose the Hindutva agenda and impose anti-conversion law, he said. He appealed to the Centre not to allow such activities and ensure the rights of minorities.

PMK leader S Ramadoss quoting the teachings of Christianity said love was the basic teaching of the religion and added that some forces were indulging in activities that disrupt communal harmony.

MDMK leader Vaiko recalled the works of Christian missionaries for the development of the Tamils and vowed to defeat forces encouraging religious chauvinism and destroying secularism.

TNCC president EVKS Elangovan alleged that the circular issued to observe December 25 as good governance day had undermined Christmas celebrations and urged the unity of secular parties.

Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan said unity in diversity and secular principles were the soul of the Constitution and everyone should follow the principles of Christianity, Islam and Tiruvalluvar.
