Villagers Give Monkey a Ritual Burial

VILLUPURAM: Residents of Mazhyampattu on Monday took the carcass of a monkey on a procession before burying it in front of a Rama temple in the village. On Monday morning, some of the villagers found one of the monkeys electrocuted on a lamp post near the temple. On the advice of the priest, villages decided to conduct the monkey’s final rites in a religious manner. They also decided to erect a nine-foot tall Hanuman statue believing the monkey to be an incarnation of Lord Rama’s messenger.
