CHENNAI: Madras High Court has suggested to the TN government to launch a scheme for providing employment on compassionate grounds to dependents of armed forces personnel, who die in harness.
Justice S Nagamuthu offered the suggestion on June 23 last, while disposing of a writ petition from one M Mary Metilda, who sought an appointment under the category as revenue assistant in Mettur Municipality.
Her husband, Mariya Louis, a soldier in the Army died on December 19, 2004 after putting in 14 years of service. He left behind his wife, daughter and aged parents without any means of livelihood. Her application for a job to the Salem District Collector on April 25, 2006, was forwarded to Mettur Municipality. However, the Municipality rejected the plea on August 23, 2013 on the ground that no scheme is available for compassionate appointment. Hence, the present petition.
The State government also must be fastened the liability to provide job under compassionate ground, the judge said and directed the TN Government to provide a job to the petitioner within four months.
