3 Killed, 6 Injured As Car Rams Van on NH

KARUR: Three people were killed and another six were injured in a road accident involving a car and a van at Karapalayam along the Karur - Coimbatore NH 67 here on Saturday.

Sources said, a car heading towards Coimbatore from Karur hit a van plying towards Karur from Coimbatore at Karapalayam  along the Karur-Coimbatore NH bound in the Thennilai police limits on Saturday afternoon.

In the accident, Subramanian (24) from Vengamedu was behind the wheels of the car and Dhivya (35), Saroja (50), Kausalya (44), Revathi (50), Nithin (3) and Sivakumar (32) --  all from the same family from Chinnandankovil of Karur -- was going to Coimbatore for some medical treatment. Ashok, the driver of the van and Senthil, both from Thoothukudi district, were plying through Karur towards Thoothukudi in the van.

Police said that the car driver had lost control and hit the van when it reached Karapalayam. In the impact, the car driver Subramanian was crushed and he died on the spot while all the others sustained grievous injuries.

Locals along with the police rescued them and sent them to the Karur government hospital. However, Revathi (50) wife of Selvaraj, died when she was admitted to Karur Government hospital while Kausalya (44), wife of Arumugam, was referred to Coimbatore and died on the way. all the other six persons were admitted to various private hospitals for treatment, said police.
