THANJAVUR: The Cauvery Rights Retrieval Committee (CRRC) has called for a bandh on July 21 in Thanjavur district demanding the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB). On the same day, the farmers will organise picketing protest in front of Central government offices in all delta districts. Talking to reporters, CRRC coordinator P Maniyarasan charged that the Union government has been abdicating its responsibility of constituting the CMB as per the final orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) in 2007. “Due to the non-release of Cauvery water, farming in 26 lakh acres of Tamil Nadu has been affected in 12 districts. Moreover drinking water supply for 19 districts has also been affected,” Maniyarasan said.
