Express News Service

CHENNAI: The National Highway Authority (  will not be collecting the phone number of persons who pay toll at the toll plaza in Paranur after the High Court removed a paragraph from its earlier judgement.

The court in its earlier order on May 21, 2014, directed National Highways to keep the record of registration number of the vehicles and phone numbers of persons who paid the amount.

The first bench comprising acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh struck down the portion pertaining to telephone numbers while stating that the other part of the order stays as it was mentioned earlier.

The judges were hearing a counter affidavit filed by National Highway Authority, which stated that the agency was facing difficulty in obtaining phone numbers from vehicle owners.

“Some of the vehicle owners pick up a quarrel and refuse to pay toll fee on ground of pendency of writ petition,” NHAI  submitted in its reply to the court.

The hearing has been adjourned  to July 3, 2014.
