PUDUCHERRY: Trade union representatives of the Swadeshi and Bharathi Textile Mills submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Rangasamy seeking his intervention in ensuring the smooth functioning of both mills.
Leaders of the AITUC and the CITU, Na Ra Kalainathan, G Ramasamy, V S Abhishegam, in the memorandum alleged that there was widespread corruption in the management of the two establishments, which should be probed immediately.
Earlier, activists of the AITUC, CITU, TUCC and UTUC took out a rally before submitting the memorandum to the Chief Minister N Rangasamy. The leaders pointed out that the mills were making profit till 1993-1994 after which they suffered a setback due to mismanagement by top officials. They also charged that the management was adopting anti-labour policies, which led to discontent among the workers.
Alleging widespread corruption in the sale of scrap materials from the mills, the leaders said that this should be probed and immediate action should be taken against those involved.
