262 Students Get Vellar Scholarships

Express News Service

CHENNAI: The United Vellar Trust, a trust that was launched for the underprivileged, has provided scholarships to 262 students.  The scholarship programme was initiated by the Dr G Vishwanathan, founder-Chancellor of VIT and also the founder of the trust.

He said, “In our country, over 60% of the people are youngsters, but unfortunately we don’t have that many colleges to accommodate them. Ones who can’t afford are forced to study in countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other former Soviet States, where they find it difficult to adjust with the language, weather, etc. It is our  government’s job to do something about it.”

“We still need five lakh medical seats in the country,” he added.

The trust awarded scholarships to five students at RCC auditorium, T Nagar.
