Man Abandons Wife, Marries Lover; Held

A 24-year-old man, who allegedly abandoned his wife and married his lover, has been arrested by the police in Ambur.

According to police, M Vijaya Kumar, a resident of Bayrapalli village near Ambur, got married to one Nalini (21) nine months ago. Kumar, who was working in a shoe factory, told Nalini after their marriage that he was in love with one Deepa but he was forced to marry Nalini by his family members.

Kumar asked Nalini to leave him as he wanted to marry Deepa. However, Nalini refused to do so. Kumar, who went to work on February 22, did not return home. His parents and wife searched for him but in vain. Kumar returned home on Thursday with Deepa and told his family members that they had got married in Tirupathi.

Following this, Nalini lodged a complaint with the All-Women Police Station against Kumar. The police registered a case against Kumar under section 498 (a), 494 and 506 (I) of IPC and arrested him. He was remanded to the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
