In a bid to have its Broom make a sweep of the coastal town in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) met with representatives of fishermen groups here to discuss key issues concerning the community, recently.
Sources said the party is trying to cash in on one of the most key issues concerning the State, which has been the hot topic of discussion in Parliament. They also revealed that the AAP was keen on fielding its candidate from Nagapattinam.
According to a district representative of the AAP, a meeting with fishermen representatives from Akkaraipettai was convened to study the needs of
the community. Their opinion was sought on ways to overcome the frequent attacks by the Sri Lankan navy. “AAP believes that the fishermen issue is being politicised.
