App to lodge Complaints of Poll Irregularities

Express News Service

Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar on Saturday launched a mobile application to help people lodge complaints regarding electoral irregularities like distribution of money, gifts and other allurements to the voters, along with photographic and videographic evidence. This application is available only for android phones (version 2.2 and above). Since there would be complete anonymity of the complainant, people can safely lodge complainants using this facility.

Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, the CEO said the mobile application can be downloaded by browsing http://elections.tn.gov.in/complaints. There are icons for different electoral malpractices - money distribution, gift and coupon distribution, liquor distribution, posters or banners put up without permission, display of firearms, vehicle or convoy seen without permission and paid news. There is another icon which gives room for lodging complaints regarding any other irregularity apart from these. One can also get information about the model of conduct to know whether the code of conduct was violated or not.

For registering a complaint, one has to open the TN Election Poll Watch App and choose the type of complaint by clicking the relevant icon and upload photos and videos besides giving details.  After this, one can send his complaint to the Control Room at the CEO’s office. The place of occurrence must be given. But giving the name and mobile number of complainant is optional.
