On the first day of filing nominations, independent candidate R S Sridhar filed his papers for Arakonam constituency. He is the regional president of Manitha Urimai Kazhagam, an NGO.
Other candidates did not turn up to file their nominations. Some of the party sources said the day was not auspicious. Sunday is a good day (Amavasya) while Monday was not. Many may have reservation for Tuesday and hence, the nominations would pick up from Wednesday, they added.
Sunday and Monday are holidays leaving only five days for the nomination process to be completed.
