The election process was set in motion with issue of notification by electoral authorities here on Saturday. But no nominations were filed on the opening day.
Congress candidate V Narayanasamy who was seeking re-election from the seat would be filing his nomination on April 3, according to a communication from the party.
The AINRC had announced former Speaker R Radhakrishnan as their candidate. The other candidates are M V Omalingam of AIADMK, A M H Naze-
em of DMK, R Viswanathan of combined left parties, RKR Anantharaman of PMK and R Rangarajan of Aam Admi Party. A good number of independents had also announced their decision to enter the fray.
In the 2009 election, 26 candidates were in the fray and this time also an equal number of candidates were expected to contest the seat.
