Express News Service

The CBI on Friday arrested Pam Srinivas Rao (35) of Andhra Pradesh in connection with the murder of Regency Ceramics Limited Operations chief K C Chandrasekhar. In 2012, when a workers’ strike in the company turned violent, police opened fire, killing trade union leader M S Murali Mohan and injuring nine others. Following this, the workers went on a rampage. Some of them went to the residence of President (operations) Chandrasekhar in Yanam and attacked him. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Yanam police, who investigated the murder of Chandrasekar, handed over the case to CBI. One of the suspects, Srinivas, fled to the Gulf and the investigation agency was unable to trace him for the last two years. On receiving information that the murder suspect would be reaching Mumbai on Friday, CBI personnel seized him at the airport. He was brought to Puducherry on Saturday and produced before Judicial Magistrate I  Ezhilvalavan. The magistrate remanded him to 15 days judicial custody. Srinivas was lodged in Kalapet Central Prison. It may be recalled that opposition parties CPI, CPM and AIADMK urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to reopen Regency Ceramics Limited.
