NRI's 2-decade Run With Fake Passport Ends

Airport police have arrested a man who arrived from Singapore with a fake passport at Tiruchy International Airport during the late hours on Saturday.

According to police, V Peramaiyan (49) of Periyakkottai near Pattukkottai in Thanjavur district was detained by the immigration authorities for possessing a passport in a fictitious name V Pichai.

On a tip off, the immigration authorities acted swiftly when he arrived at the Tiruchy International Airport by a  Singapore by Tiger Airways at 11.30 pm on Saturday.

According to an immigration official, the man was believed to have been travelling with a fake passport for more than two decades between Tiruchy and Singapore.

Peramaiyan had gone to Singapore seeking employment on a tourist visa who was then expelled by the Singapore immigration authorities to India within a month.

Peramaiyan then obtained a passport from an agent Vijay from Mathukkur in Thanjavur district using Peramaiyan’s brother name V Pichai. He had also changed his mother’s name in the passport, the officials added.

As the passport was bearing Permaiyan’s photo, he was successfully travelling for such a long time.

Later, he was handed over to the airport police personnel who arrested him. He was charged for producing false documents and fraudulently obtaining passport.
