COONOOR: Tourists visiting Nilgiris this summer will have an added attraction, thanks to the State government undertaking Tamil Nadu Tea Plantation Corporation Ltd (TANTEA) opening a Tea Museum near Sim’s Park in Coonoor.

The museum, built at a cost of `9 lakh taken from the Hill Area Development Programme, is housed in one of the bungalows remodelled for the purpose. The facility offers under one-roof an opportunity to tourists to gather facts about tea and procure their choice of the best quality tea. There is no entry fee, said TANTEA managing director Dr S Balaji while speaking to Express on Tuesday after inaugurating the museum.

The general information provided here includes types of tea, health benefits of anti-oxidants in tea, production and exports. There is a model of Tiger Hill factory and a demonstration on manufacturing varieties of tea, said T Murugesan, TANTEA divisional manager.
