KRISHNAGIRI: Five days after a Dalit youth’s elopement with a Vanniyar girl sparked communal tension in Krishnagiri, district police managed to trace the lovebirds.

The inter-caste lover affair threatened to blow into a major row, similar to the tragic Ilavarasan-Divya love affair in Dharmapuri.

In the instant case, a Dalit youth Kubendran of Kutur village near Denkanikotta had fallen in love with a Vanniyar girl Divya. The girl is a resident of Bariamangalam in Denkanikottai.

On Sunday last the young lovers eloped with an intention to get married as locals had opposed their union.

On Thursday Divya’s father Rajappa consumed poison claiming that he was being intimidated by Kubendran’s family. He was admitted to a private hospital in Bangalore in a critical condition. Following this Divya’s brother Murali had lodged a complaint at the Kelamangalam Police Station accusing Kubendran of abducting his sister. Later, the Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police Kannammal had constituted a special team to trace the young lovebirds.

On Friday the team managed to locate them. “The two have been traced and are being questioned. Based on their statements, we will investigate further,” Kannammal told Express.
