VELLORE: The special court at Poonamallee, on Wednesday, postponed the hearing in the murder case of S Vellaiyappan (Hindu Munnani State General Secretary) and Dr V Aravinth Reddy (BJP Medical Wing secretary) to October 15.

The terror suspects Fakruddin (alias ‘Police’), Bilal Malik and Panna Ismail were escorted to the special court in Poonamallee amidst tight security from the Vellore Central Prison. The district police deployed two DSPs, five inspectors and 36 police personnel for the escort duty. “The police team took custody of the trio at 9.05 am. They were taken in separate vehicles to the court and brought back around 3 pm,” said a police source.

Judge M Moni postponed the hearing of the case to October 15 as the trio did not receive the copies of the charge sheets filed against them. “The trial in these cases will begin once the trio is furnished with photocopies of the charge sheets. They will be served the charge sheets within a day or two,” added a police official.

In another case involving Fakruddin and his associates who have also been accused in the murder of Panchatcharam, sources in the police department said that the court has granted permission to conduct Identification Test (IT) parade in Panchatcharam murder. The IT Parade would be held inside the Vellore Central Prison for Men on October 9 in the presence of a magistrate from Vellore District Court.

Citing the chargesheet, a police officer said that Fakruddin and his associates confessed to the murder of Panchatcharam, a staff of jewellery showroom in Gudiyattam. They followed Panchatcharam in a bike and intercepted him near the Gudiyattam Railway Station on April 29 last year.

They robbed him of his bag containing `1.5 lakh of cash and tried to escape from there. They stabbed Panchatcharam to death when he resisted them. The trio confessed that they used the money for their jihad activities.
