PUDUCHERRY: The talks between the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) management and the Joint Action Council (JAC) of trade unions on the demands of contract workers failed once again on Tuesday.
During the talks held in the presence of Assistant Commissioner of Labour P Sivarajan on Tuesday, the management representatives said that not more than 750 workers could be regularised at a time. But the JAC insisted that the management abide by the Supreme Court directions of regularising all contract workers. The move to regularise only 200 workers is against the apex court directions, the JAC leaders said.
The unions had served a strike notice on August 18, stating demands of equal pay for equal wages and so on. Since talks failed again, the unions will decide their next step on Wednesday.
