Express News Service

CHENNAI: A defamation case was filed against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday for his alleged statements against the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

City Chief Public Prosecutor M L Jegan filed the case in the Principal District Sessions Court, submitting that recent remarks on the Chief Minister by Swamy in his letters to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in an interview to the Tamil daily were false and malicious.

The Tamil daily, which carried the remarks in its September 5 edition, has also been accused in the  defamation case.

Swamy, who recently joined the national party after he merged his Janata Party with it, has been recently making critical remarks against Jayalalithaa. He made statements that the Chief Minister cannot take all the claim for the restoring the rights of Tamilnadu in the Mullaiperiyar dam by waging a legal battle in the Supreme Court.
