Renault Land Layout Awaits DTCP Approval

CHENNAI: A 100-acre land belonging of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT), offered to Renault Nissan Suppliers Park, is yet to get the approval of Directorate of Town and Country Planning department.

DTCP sources told Express that the land in Vadukkuppattu and Chennakuppam villages of Sriperumbudur taluk could not get clearance due to issues pertaining to development control regulations. The delay in clearance is also linked to the lack of three layers of top officials in the directorate. According to the sources the DTCP has not filled up the sanctioned posts of additional director, joint directors and deputy directors. A proposal has already been mooted to use the expertise of experienced hands with Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.

The SIPCOT layout was formed in the name of Renault Nissan Suppliers Park and plots were allotted to individuals without the nod of the DTCP.

During scrutiny of SIPCOT’s application for approval, it was found that width of roads and dimension of open space reserve (OSR) area of the layout failed to satisfy the norms of development control regulation provisions.

As such, DTCP has requested SIPCOT to rectify the defects. But, it has requested for exemption.

Meanwhile, blaming the lack of clarity on the process to be followed for obtaining building plan approvals, Renault Nissan urged the State government to ensure time-bound approvals with necessary guidelines.
