COIMBATORE: The salary of contract nurses working in government medical college hospitals has been increased. They will now be paid on par with contract nurses working for schemes under the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP).

There are 78 nurses working on contract under the Director of Medical Education (DME) in various government medical college hospitals. They were not being paid on par with nurses working on contract for TNHSP.

The consolidated pay of the TNHSP nurses was raised from `4,000 to `7,000 in the first year, `4,500 to `7,500 in the second year and `5,500 to `8,000 from the third year.

On nurses working in medical college hospitals making representations for the higher pay, the State government directed the DME to issue instructions to raise their pay also.
