CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Saturday granted Rs 6 lakh as financial assistance to popular folk singer and actor Paravai Muniyamma, hospitalised for age-related ailments in Madurai. The AIADMK chief also said Rs 6,000 per month would be given to Paravai Muniyamma towards routine expenses of her family, through the MGR Trust.
“The MGR Trust will bear the entire medical expenses of Paravai Muniyamma,” an official release from the AIADMK headquarters here said. The release said Muniyamma had, in an interview, revealed the hardships faced by her family due to poverty and her age-related ailments and expressed confidence that only the Chief Minister could rescue her and her family from the present situation. On knowing the problems faced by Muniyamma, the AIADMK chief has announced this assistance.
The CM announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of four persons — Jeyaprakash, Kumaresan, Govindaraj and Rajendran — who were electrocuted while pulling the temple car at Kuppam village in Vellore district on May 21. She also conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.
Aid to Cops’ Kin
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa also granted financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh each to the families of nine police personnel of various stations in the State who had died recently due to illness and accidents. The police personnel were: S Thanikainathan, G Gnanaraj, V Ravikumar, M Chinnadurai, A Velayutham, Sivakumar, Thavamani Raja and J Thanikachalam.
