COIMBATORE: Neither actor-singer Silambarasan nor music director Anirudh Ravichander presented themselves at the Coimbatore Race Course police station on Saturday despite the summons sent a few days ago.

Ravichander sent a lawyer and the family of Silambarasan sent a letter to the police seeking more time before being questioned.

A decision in this regard would be taken soon, a top official told Express

Last week, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) petitioned Coimbatore Police Commissioner A Amalraj demanding action against the two after a song, that has come to be  known as “Beep Song” was leaked online.

Allegedly sung by Silambarasan and set to music by Ravichander, the expletive-ridden, sexist song is seen as insulting women. The “Beep Song” went viral in social networking sites and mobile messaging applications.

Race Course police had registered a case against Silambarasan and Ravichander under Sections 4 and 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and Section 509 (insult to modesty of woman) of IPC and Section 67 (publishing obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.

In response to the summons. Ravichander sought a week’s time to present himself at the station through his lawyer, P Senthilkumar. The lawyer informed the police that his client was in Toronto, Canada. He would return to India in a week, after which he would answer their questions. The lawyer told reporters here that Ravichander had already distanced himself from the the song in question. His client was not the lyricist, singer or the music composer of the “Beep Song”.
